What is a Chandra Kundli (Moon Chart)? A Complete Guide
Alongside your main birth chart, Vedic astrologers often examine the Chandra Kundli — the Moon chart. It is the same set of planetary positions, but read from a different starting point.
What the Chandra Kundli is
In the Chandra Kundli, the Moon's sign is treated as the 1st house (the ascendant), and all houses are counted from the Moon rather than from the Lagna. This is also called reading from the Chandra Lagna.
Why use a second reference point?
Because the Moon governs the mind and emotions, reading the chart from the Moon reveals how planetary placements affect you emotionally and mentally. A planet that looks neutral from the Lagna may be significant when viewed from the Moon.
How it is used
Astrologers cross-check placements from both the Lagna and the Moon. If a result is indicated from both reference points, it is considered much stronger and more likely to manifest. This is also why Manglik Dosha is checked from the Moon as well as the Lagna.
The three-reference principle
This idea — reading from the Lagna, the Moon, and sometimes Venus — is a core technique in Vedic astrology. It adds confirmation and depth to a reading rather than relying on a single viewpoint.
