How to Check Marriage Timing in Your Kundli

9 September 2024·7 min read

"When will I get married?" is one of the most common questions people bring to astrology. Vedic astrology does not give a single fixed date, but it does identify favourable periods for marriage using well-defined principles. Here is how it is analysed.

Start with the 7th house

Marriage is primarily read from the 7th house — the house of partnership and the spouse — along with its lord (the planet ruling the sign on the 7th house). The condition of this house and lord sets the foundation.

The key marriage significators

  • Venus (Shukra): the natural significator of marriage and love for everyone.
  • Jupiter (Guru): the significator of marriage especially for women, and a general benefic for timing.
  • The 7th lord: its placement and strength shape the nature and timing of marriage.

Timing through Dasha

The actual timing comes from the Vimshottari Dasha system. Marriage tends to become likely during the periods (Mahadasha/Antardasha) of:

  • The 7th house lord,
  • Venus or Jupiter,
  • Planets placed in or aspecting the 7th house.

When such a period runs and supportive transits (especially of Jupiter and Saturn) align, the window for marriage opens.

The role of transits

Transits of slow-moving Jupiter and Saturn over the 7th house or its lord often coincide with marriage. Astrologers combine the dasha (the "permission") with transits (the "trigger").

An honest caveat

Astrology indicates tendencies and windows, not guaranteed dates. Free will, circumstances and choices all matter. Treat timing as guidance, not prophecy.
