What is Kaal Sarp Dosha? Meaning, Types, and Remedies

25 June 2026·5 min read

Kaal Sarp Dosha (or Kaal Sarp Yoga) is a planetary condition in Vedic astrology that forms when all seven planets are positioned between Rahu and Ketu (the lunar nodes) in the birth chart.

How it forms

Rahu and Ketu are always exactly opposite each other. When every other planet falls on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis, the chart is said to have Kaal Sarp Dosha.

Main types

There are traditionally 12 types of Kaal Sarp Dosha, named after the house position of Rahu — for example Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, and Takshak. Each is said to influence a different area of life.

Effects described in tradition

Classical texts associate it with ups and downs, delays, or extra effort needed for success. As always, this is a tendency — many successful people have this yoga, and the rest of the chart heavily modifies its impact.

Common remedies

  • Worship of Lord Shiva and Rahu-Ketu mantras
  • Visiting temples associated with the Nagas (serpent deities)
  • Charity and specific pujas, if recommended after full analysis
