The six Manglik houses

Manglik Dosha is created when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, counted from the Lagna, Moon or Venus.

• 1st house: Affects the self and temperament; strong drive, direct nature, aspects the 7th house of marriage.
• 2nd house: Touches family, speech and finances; can sharpen speech and affect family harmony.
• 4th house: Affects home, mother and inner peace; energy in the domestic sphere.
• 7th house: The house of marriage itself; the most directly relevant placement for partnerships.
• 8th house: Transformation, longevity and shared resources; intense and change-oriented.
• 12th house: Losses, expenses, foreign lands and the private/intimate sphere.

Why these houses specifically?

These houses are traditionally connected to marriage, family harmony, temperament and the private dimensions of life. Mars — energetic and combative by nature — is watched carefully here because its raw energy can either strengthen or destabilise these sensitive areas depending on how it is placed.

The houses that do NOT cause Manglik Dosha

The 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th houses do not create Manglik Dosha. The 9th house especially is often wrongly believed to be Manglik — it is not.

Two people can both have Mars in the 7th house and experience completely different outcomes, because:

• Sign: Mars in its own sign or exaltation is strong and constructive; debilitated Mars is weaker.
• Aspects: A benefic aspect (e.g. Jupiter) tempers Mars.
